  1. Parmenides (c. 515-450 BC) was a prominent philosopher of ancient Greece. He was one of the founders of the Eleática School, named after the southern Italian city of Elea, where he was born. Little has survived from his writings, there is only one poem that is definitely attributed to him, but he was very influential as a philosopher. Plato in particular was strongly influenced by his ideas about the nature of reality and how he often comes into conflict with what seems to be true.
