It was a another solo day today. My start was along this path with a stream running beside it, and there was an extra skip to my shoes with the news that the walk has raised over £800.

It was so good to have company today, and it was as if the walk knew it had to be a special day. The hike was full of shaded woods, wild flowers and clear blue views across England.

Today was my first taste of solo walking. I set off imagining the thousands of horrors, of which the two most likely were: falling over, and getting lost. The first did not happen … but the second did.
It started well. This was the view that I found after conquering a path described as one that ‘rises steadily’.
