Hasani is a poet from Zimbabwe who left the country due to political strife. He writes protest poetry and advocates for recognition of human rights and justice in Zimbabwe. He currently lives in London.

The Phraser 
As with most dissidents who flee from the country of oppression Hasani probably feels quite safe in criticising Zimbabwe from the relative safety of England. I doubt whether Mugabe would be able to silence him, but would probably like to. This is fairly inflammatory stuff, but delivered in quite way. I always remember Roosevelt’s quote: Speak softly, carry a big stick.’ Perhaps there needs to be some internal gathering in the country who can get a big stick and get rid of the oppressive regime running the country. It will be interesting to see what happens when Mugabe dies, there doesn’t appear to be a power vacuum with his henchmen behind him ready to take over the mantle of leader/dictator.

Zimbabwe is complicated but I know there a lot of people working incredibly hard, and taking great personal risks, to help the country move forward.

Good point, I wasn’t trying to be demeaning. I knew my friend Roger Shepherd was passionate about Zimbabwe. He fought in the civil war and lost an eye. You have my full support in trying to get your country back on an even keel.
